Malawi President Mutharika declares state of distance on coronavirus

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi President Peter Mutharika on Friday, March 20, 2020 declared a state of disaster in the country following the threat of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Therefore government has put the following measures:

  1. All schools, public and private (including public and private colleges), be closed by Monday 23rd March 2020.
  2. All public gatherings restricted to less than 100 people. These include, funerals, weddings, church, political gatherings and government meetings.
  3. A travel ban on foreign nationals from countries highly affected by the Coronavirus disease has also been put in place.

Mutharika says security apparatus has been put in place to enforce these measures.

The president is expected to address the nation later tonight fully on the announcement.

Meanwhile no coronavirus has been reported in Malawi.
