MZUZU-(MaraviPost)—Barely three days after health minister announced two covid-19 cases, one new case of Covid-19 has today been confirmed in Mzuzu, raising the caseload to 37.
According to Minister of Health and Population, Jappie Mhango, the patient is a 40-year-old man who recently travelled to Mbeya Tanzania and returned on 27 April to Mzirawayingwe in the City of Mzuzu.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe, Mhango said when the man arrived at his home, Chiefs were notified of his arrival from Tanzania which is currently a hotspot of the disease, and the chiefs asked the man to observe self quarantine as they made efforts to notify health workers at Mzuzu Central Hospital, who collected samples.
When the health workers tested the samples the results came out positive for Covid 19.
Meanwhile, the minister has advised members of the general public to take all the preventive measures such as observing social distance, frequently washing hands with soap and staying home so as to avoid contracting the virus.
This, therefore, means Malawi has currently 37 confirmed cases of Covid 19 with seven recoveries and three deaths. 27 people are still under observation by health personnel.
