Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) confiscates Indian hemp at Mwanza Border

Blantyre, January 30, 2015: The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on Wednesday seized Indian hemp weighing 29.5kilograms at Mwanza Border.

The hemp was seized during inspections in the Intercape bus coming from South Africa.

 

Wilma Chalulu, Manager Marketing Communications saidthe carton’s owner which contained the prohibited drug, Prisca Musesa was immediately arrested by the Police.

Chalulu said the hemp, which is currently in Police custody, was disguised in well packaged bricks, sealed in a carton and was suspected to be destined to another country.

MRA has since appealed to members of the general public not to hesitate but tip the Authority about malpractices such as smuggling through toll free number 847 for Airtel and TNM subscribers or 80000847 for MTL subscribers.
