LILONGWE (MaraviPost)-As the repatriation exercise continues, the Ministry of Homeland Security has set October 5, 2023, as the second cohort of repatriation of refugees.
Public Relations Officer Patrick Botha said the 108 refugees are expected to go to Bujumbura in Burundi.
Botha said the ministry is looking forward to more coming up of refugees as the process is very smooth and targets those willing to leave.
“Voluntary repatriation remains one of the durable solutions when it comes to refugee management,” said Botha.
He adds that the refugee repatriation was first scheduled on 15th September but due to logistical problems, the dates were rescheduled.
The Homeland Security Ministry has managed to repatriate over 300 refugees in the first cohort which manages to confiscate notorious criminals.
