HARARE-(MaraviPost)-Malawian boxer Clifford Antafu has clinched the World Boxing Federation title after defeating Zambia’s Ignitious Mutale on points in a closely contested bout held in Zimbabwe on Saturday night.

The 12-round contest saw both fighters exchange blows throughout, delivering an entertaining display for the crowd.

At the final bell, two of the three judges ruled in favor of Antafu, awarding him the win and the championship belt.

Speaking after the fight, Antafu’s trainer Salimu Chazama said he was pleased with the result, noting that the hard work put into preparations had paid off.

Malawi Boxing Association president Lonzo Defector Zimba also welcomed the victory, saying it had been some time since a Malawian boxer returned home with a title from abroad.

He described Antafu’s win as proof that Malawi has fighters capable of bringing home more belts if they receive proper support and management.

Antafu is expected to arrive in Malawi on Tuesday.

Youth Boxing Promotion has announced plans to organize a special reception to welcome the new champion.
