BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The former ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has rejoined the investigation into the plane crash that killed former Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others in Chikangawa Forest in 2024, after initially withdrawing in protest over the committee’s composition.

MCP chief whip Moses Kunkuyu told Parliament on Friday that the party is now satisfied with the revised 13-member panel, which includes representatives from all major political parties and independent members.

He said the new composition ensures a more balanced and inclusive approach, addressing the concerns that led to MCP’s earlier withdrawal.

The decision comes after Speaker of Parliament Sameer Suleman unveiled the reconstituted ad hoc committee, describing it as the result of a constructive meeting that brought together members from both sides of the House to discuss the panel’s composition and ensure fair representation.

The committee includes legislators from MCP, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and one representative each from the United Transformation Movement (UTM), People’s Party (PP), and United Democratic Front (UDF), alongside three independent members.

The DPP is represented by Gilbert Khonyongwa, Chipalamoto Nkhwazi, James Mpunga, and Dumisani Lindani, while the MCP delegation includes Joshua Malango, Jivason Kadzipatike, and Mphatso Boti.

Other party representatives are Felix Njawala (UTM), Beatrice Mwale (PP), and Ismail Mkumba (UDF).

The independent members are Savwell Kafwawa, Dailes Moses Bengo, and Walter Nyamilandu Manda.
