LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Youth Executive Kaliyopa Banda has reiterated the need for President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government to embrace freedom of worship towards the country’s developmental agenda.
MCP’s Senior Youth Executive member Banda said this during an annual crusade of Unity in Jesus Church in Nkhotakota last Sunday.
Kaliyopa said the party, through Chakwera’s leadership, believes that giving people freedom of worship as enshrined in the constitution of the Republic of Malawi is part of the MCP manifesto.
“Let me mention here that I was invited to this conference because the leadership of the church wanted me to appreciate some of the humanitarian work they are doing like running an orphanage, and women empowerment initiatives among others. Therefore, I thought these people need our support and as such, even politicians need to participate in such kinds of initiatives.
“When people worship without any infringement in the country, it means the leadership thinks about people’s welfare and it means the leaders put issues affecting them at heart,” said Kaliyopa.
He added, “You will believe with me that when the country has more God-fearing people, development works are done without any bias or corruption. It is the hope of our party and the president that we will continue to live in peace and be able to pray for our country for things to move on well.”
In his remarks, founder and President of the Church in Malawi Bishop Joseph Mazon Tione appreciated Kaliyopa for attending their merger annual conference which was the first of its kind since the founding of the church.
“We are so delighted to see that we can worship at the church of our choice freely in this country under the leadership of Dr. Chakwera.
“We would like to send our appreciation to him through you. We can assure Malawians that if we all can join and pray for our country, things may improve and God may indeed bless us with our needs, ” Bishop Tione said.
He added, “Let me say that we need to be Malawians who love our country and be united to help our President develop this country rather than wasting time arguing about things that don’t matter just because of our political differences.
“At our church, we are keeping some orphans and offering them free education at the nursery school which we built on our own but we need support from well-wishers to help us”.
Unity in Jesus Church was founded in 2004 in Malawi and is headquartered in Nkhotakota.
