Mutharika condemns Kenyan attack that saw Al-Shabaab gunmen slaughter 147 people at a Kenyan college

Malawi President Peter Mutharika condemned on Thursday the attack on a Kenyan university that killed close to 150 people.

 

“It is with deep shock and sorrow that on behalf of government and people of Malawi and indeed on my own behalf I send my deepest condolence to president Uhuru Kenyatta, the government and people of the Republic of Kenya on the lives lost in the Garissa attacks.
My government also strongly stand in solidarity with the Kenyan government and the whole world against acts of terrorism.
Our prayers are with the bereaved families, the people and Government of Kenya and President Kenyatta. May the souls of the departed find peace in our Lord”.

Authorities said that the attackers from the terrorist group al-Shabaab stormed the Garissa University College campus, took hostages and reportedly looked for students who were not Muslim.

A hundred and forty-seven people were killed, including four attackers. Kenyan forces fought with attackers throughout the day and eventually trapped them in a single dormitory, according to news and Television reports.

Al-Shabab, which is based in Somalia, claimed responsibility for the attack in radio message, according to reports on CNN.TV and other Media such as RT.TV.
