President Peter Mutharika has faced all kinds of accusations which appear to stick because of his failure to defend himself effectively. His team appear to be overmatched by his critics forcing the President to defend himself directly as his surrogates have shown to have no stomach to getting into the trenches with the exception of Seodi White and others who are not directly part of his administration.
The Malawi President out of frustration has been forced to file a law suit against critic Allan Ntata. The desperate move by the President in filing this law suit shows that he is surrounded by people that have failed to respond and fight for him, allowing the President to avoid getting into the mad directly.
The latest accusation that Peter Mutharika is grappling with is his supposedly large delegation to the just finished UNGA 2015. The delegation was necessary and most of them were sponsored by organizations outside the Malawi Government. However Mutharika has failed to convince the Malawi Social media critics showing his need for an effective spokesperson like Ntaba was to his older brother Bingu WA Mutharika.
Defending the President Seodi White wrote the following on her Facebook page:
“What I find so sad about the whole thing is that people are concentrating on the so called delegation to UNGA. I have travelled to the UNCSW 12 times so far in my life. 5 times I registered myself as a Malawi government delegate since I was presenting in side events in the UN Building and I wanted accreditation.
All 12 times I was never funded by Malawi government. In fact in my whole life I have never travelled on Malawi government funding although I have travelled as a Malawi government to delegate.
Now is that so difficult to understand?
Like seriously?
There is something else? Second the President’s statement at the Press Conference today was so rich in technical matters on:
1. What his PERSONAL participation as Head of State at UNGA Side events means for the country and how historic it is. It puts Malawi on the global governance agenda and this has a positive spin on the country.
2. on why reforms are important: So that we transform as well as catch up with other countries at least in the subregion.
3. on trading and how it will put money in farmer’s pockets. VERY IMPORTANT points. Actually groundbreaking for the country’s future. But no. NOONE asked about these NOR will report nor do an analysis of this. Nkhani ikhala JET and DELEGATION. And the Jet issue will never be about one that was sold whose funds never entered government coffers”.
Peter Mutharika needs Seodi White at statehouse to provide the team with backbone.
