BLANTYRE (MaraPost)—Police in the northern district of Mzimba are hunting for a man who they believe defiled and murdered a 6-year-old girl last weekend in the district.
The suspect, identified as Song Banda, allegedly strangled the girl to death and then buried her in maize garden for people not to know the ordeal.
According to Mzimba Police Publicist Gift Nyirongo, the suspect was working as a tenant for the girl’s parents.
He is said to have defiled her upon arrival from a near by trading centre where he had gone to have some beer.
“When he returned home he found the deceased playing with friends at home and asked her to follow him.
“Banda then allegedly dragged the girl to a nearby bush where he defiled her before strangling her to death and buried her in the maize field,” said Nyirongo.
The deceased’s body was discovered partly buried in the maize garden by her parents after she was reported missing.
“They found her partly buried in the maize field but unfortunately by that time Banda had already disappeared.”
“The suspect is still at large and we are finding it hard to locate him since he did not provide his full particulars when he was employed; his home village is not known,” he added.
