Mzuzu holds first-ever City Summit on July 26

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Mzuzu City Council will hold the first-ever City Summit slated for July 26 this year which is the brainchild of the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture aimed at providing an exclusive platform for government leaders, industry experts, city residents and non-governmental organizations to address livable and sustainable city challenges.

The summit is aimed at coming up with viable and sustainable solutions for the improvement of service delivery through the realization of the gaps and jointly creating a progressing City Council that will be able to do things differently by complementing the existing efforts to achieve quick wins, in the transformation of Mzuzu City.

According to the organizing Chairperson for the summit, Lieutenant Colonel Yoram Ngwira (retired) the forthcoming Summit is geared to co-create city solutions to spur social and economic development and accelerate the Malawi Implementation Plan (MIP 1) for the Malawi 2063.

“The indaba will take a holistic approach to matters of the Mzuzu City with emphasis on Waste Management service delivery, trading Practices, enhancement of Revenue generation, transport, and policy issues,” states Colonel Ngwira.

He further stated that it is anticipated to have about 200 delegates from various institutions at the national, regional, and local levels hence the council is working on a budget of MK12,870, 000.00.

In an interview, the Mzuzu City Council’s Public Relations Officer, Macdonald Gondwe said considering the relevance of the summit and other stakeholders involved the activity will be live on some local radio stations, and other social media outlets hence requesting support towards the organization and the management of the first-ever, City Summit.

“We are appealing for partnership with well-wishers in the implementation of this city summit which can be in the form of financial and material support towards the attached budget items,” said Gondwe.

The summit will be held under the theme “Urban Renewal and Economic Growth” focusing on a number of thematic areas including waste management, vending, local revenue generation, urban transportation, and connectivity.
