Of RBM’s hide and seek ploy against Amaryllis Hotel purchase probe: A blatant attempt to undermine Parliamentary oversight won’t work

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has taken note of the Reserve Bank of Malawi’s (RBM) recent actions, which appear to be a thinly veiled attempt to obstruct the ongoing inquiry into the Amaryllis Hotel Saga.

After being invited to appear before the Committee, RBM leadership chose to decline, citing a “conflict of dates” – a move that reeks of desperation. In a desperate move to suffocate the ongoing inquiry, RBM invited PAC members for a meeting in Salima in order to influence the narrative on the inquiry.

The central bank authorities are demanding that the Hotel purchase probe be done in private against the current process of be done on public TV

We see through this is ploy to hide something from the public.

RBM’s decision to shift goalposts and avoid scrutiny only fuels suspicions of wrongdoing.

The Amaryllis Hotel Saga is not just about a hotel; it’s about accountability, it’s about trust, it’s about the people’s money.

But reacting to the ploy, PAC chairperson Steven Malondera on Saturday through his Facebook assured the nation that the hotel purchase inquiry will be done on public space.

Malondera hinted that all those involved in the saga will face the committee.

This is a relief the public are watching very closely as RBM is also warned against playing games with Malawians.

On Saturday, President Peter Mutharika gave more support to PAC on Amaryllis Hotel purchase probe that his leadership was monitoring the inquiry with interests.

Mutharika therefore assured the nation that his leadership will not shield anyone involved in corruption.
