LILONGWE-(MANA)-The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe is expected to make a ruling on Friday, 25th April, 2025, on bail application in the case in which movie actor, Tumpe Mtaya, commonly known as Phwedo, is suspected to have had sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Mtaya appeared before the court Thursday where his lawyer, Robert Kadzakumanja, applied for bail, arguing that there was no good reason for his client to remain in police custody when investigations are ongoing.

But Chief Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu, who is presiding over the case reserved the ruling for Friday at 2 Oclock in the afternoon.

Mtaya will be kept at Area 3 police station because pending the bail ruling on Friday, according to Kadzakumanja.

The movie actor, who made a name in the movie School Days, was arrested on Tuesday on allegations that on February 18 he invited the minor to his house where he reportedly had sexual intercourse with her.

According to the police, Mtaya is said to have continued sleeping with the minor thereafter, leading to his arrest upon a lodged complaint from the minors parents.
