Following concerns raised by the Zomba City Council, The Maravi Post publication would like to issue a formal retraction and clarification regarding the article titled, “Mockery or Milestone? Road Marking to Chawe Inn Sparks Laughter, Frustration”, published on June 15, 2025.
In the original article, it was stated that Zomba City Council was responsible for the road marking works along the route leading to Chawe Inn. This information was incorrect.
We acknowledge that Mr. Archangel Bakolo, the Chief Executive Officer of Zomba City Council, has categorically stated that the said road lies outside the jurisdiction of the City Council and instead falls under the Zomba District Council. We sincerely regret the misattribution and any reputational damage caused by associating the project with Zomba City Council.
As a publication committed to accuracy and accountability, we retract the reference to Zomba City Council’s involvement in the road marking activity and apologize unreservedly to Mr. Bakolo and the entire Zomba City Council for the error.
Further investigation to determine the responsible authority for the road maintenance is ongoing, and we will provide updates once verified information becomes available.
We also encourage government bodies and stakeholders to continue offering clarifications when necessary, as public discourse benefits from open, fact-based engagement.
Once again, we extend our apologies to Zomba City Council and our readers for this oversight.
