MCP diaspora slashes baseless refund claims

LONDON-(MaraviPost)-Chalo Mvula, former MCP Diaspora chairperson and now the party’s second Deputy Director of International Affairs, has welcomed the MCP Diaspora’s statement slashing baseless refund claims.

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Diaspora network has launched a scathing, unequivocal denial in response to baseless allegations that its members are demanding a refund of £300,000 in donations.

The diaspora wing has labelled the reports as pure fiction and a desperate attempt at political sabotage.

In a statement addressing articles published by local media, the MCP Diaspora accused the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of orchestrating the smear campaign.

“This is the clear work of DPP propaganda machinery,” the statement read.

“The DPP should focus on implementing its own manifesto, as that is what Malawians expect, rather than wasting time trying to bring MCP into disrepute.”

The statement outlined two key points: firstly, that no such donation of £300,000 was ever made to the party by the diaspora wing, and secondly, that no individual or group within the MCP diaspora has demanded a refund.

The diaspora wing urged the public and party supporters to disregard the false reports, reaffirming its continued support for the MCP and its leadership.

The allegations had been made by an unnamed “UK-based diehard” and had been dismissed as baseless propaganda.

The MCP Diaspora accused individuals with “evil intentions” of trying to sow seeds of disunity within the party.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, and urged Malawians to reject attempts to spread misinformation and divisive rhetoric.

The MCP Diaspora’s swift response to these allegations demonstrates its commitment to defending the party’s reputation and promoting unity among its members.

As the party continues to push forward with its agenda, it is clear that the MCP Diaspora will not be swayed by malicious propaganda and will continue to support the party’s leadership.

The party’s stance is a testament to its commitment to truth and integrity, and serves as a reminder to all Malawians to be vigilant against attempts to spread misinformation.

The MCP Diaspora’s statement has been met with widespread support from party loyalists, who have praised the party’s leadership for its handling of the situation.

The party’s commitment to transparency and accountability is a beacon of hope for Malawians, who deserve better than the politics of deception and manipulation.

As the MCP continues to push forward, it is clear that the party will not be deterred by baseless allegations and will continue to work towards a brighter future for all Malawians.

The truth will prevail, and the MCP Diaspora will continue to defend the party’s reputation and promote unity among its members.

Pastor Chance Munthal

Submitted By Chalo Mvula

The Malawi Congress Party Diaspora Wing over the weekend raised money   through a gala dinner event to help the party allocate election monitors in all the polling stations at the forthcoming general elections. The event was held in the city of Birmingham in United Kingdom.  Malawi goes to the polls on 21st of May to elect the president, members of parliament and councillors. However, the highlight of the event was an endorsement coming from a group of Malawian Pastors living in diaspora who made a statement endorsing Lazarus Chakwera as the candidate of choice to be Malawi’s next president.

According to the spokesman of MCP Diaspora Wing Chalo Mvula , the Birmingham event was to cement the seriousness of the diaspora community in making sure that the elections are free and fair . Malawi Congress Party launched the Tambala Fund, an initiative that encouraged its members to contribute to the party and sponsor for a monitor. The Diaspora event was a response to that call and so far the diaspora community has contributed over £3500.  “It’s a collective effort and other diaspora members from USA, Republic of Ireland responded to our call and contributed something” said Mvula.

The event was spiced up by various activities that included a music performance by Nick Thindwa whose sang his hit song “Chakwera wa M’boma”  . Thindwa mesmerized the audience with his unique dancing skills .There was also a comedy treat from Scotland based Malawian comedian Khwethemu.  Patrons were also treated to an auction sale where various items were sold to the members of the audience and dinner dance provided by Powerglobal DJ, Gnice.

On the political front MCP veteran member Chris Chaima Banda received a standing ovation after delivering a moving speech on the philosophy of Dr Lazarus Chakwera and his presidency.  “Chakwera is not only just God fearing, but in him Malawians will be voting for a candidate who will fulfil each and every promise that is in the party manifesto. Malawians are blessed to have a candidate like Chakwera” Claimed Banda amid the handclapping and the ululation from the audience.

MCP president Lazarus Chakwera, while not physically in attendance sent a message which was read to the audience. Chakwera said he was humbled to see the diaspora community coming together  to support the party. He said he was assuring those in diaspora that Malawi  will soon give  birth to “A New Malawi enjoyed by Everyone” . Chakwera went on to acknowledge that the support of the diaspora and the many efforts of others can guarantee that the elections will not be rigged. He went further to warn that any efforts to tamper with the elections will not only be thwarted, but will also be investigated immediately after he is sworn in as the president.

And then there was the moment when  Derby based Man of God , Pastor Chance Munthali  stood up to read a list of  pastors living in diaspora  who have endorsed the candidacy of Lazarus Chakwera to be the next president of Malawi.  Pastor Chance Munthali said the pastors had settled for this choice after much though and prayer “ God has heard the cry of Malawians and He has Chosen Chakwera to rescue Malawi  from poverty, rampant corruption and to excute the rule of law in the country” . He went on to pray for the peaceful elections and for God to give Chakwera more wisdom.

Malawi Congress Party members in the diaspora have welcomed the working relationship move the party has announced with Freedom party leader and former Vice president Khumbo Kachali .

Announcing this, the spokesperson for MCP Diaspora Wing Chalo Mvula said, Khumbo Kachali is a good strategic addition to the party and the move will reinforce the party position in the north. “ As diaspora MCP members , we are happy with the endorsement our leader Dr Chakwera has got from Khumbo Kachali and the start of this working relationship- Khumbo is a well-respected politician who has a lot of influence especially in the northern region of Malawi” said Mvula.

On Sunday, MCP president Lazarus Chakwera flanked by his running mate Sidik Mia and second Vice president Harry Mkandawire addressed a press conference in Blantyre. Among other issues that included Chakwera resigning as Member of Parliament and leader of opposition, they introduced Khumbo Kachali as a working partner. As the date of the general election approaches, political parties have been busy trying to strike alliance deals “2019 elections will be won with effective strategy, and winning elections is all about the numbers and that’s why we are not surprised with all these parties trying to form alliances. We however, feel by working with Khumbo Kachali MCP has made a golden strategic move. The people of the North knows it’s only MCP that will take good care of the region as it has always been ignored by the previous regimes” Mvula said.

Khumbo Kachali is a seasoned politician who political journey saw him became a cabinet minister in late Bingu wa Mutharika’s Government. Born in 1966, he has held several cabinet positions that includes Minister of Industry, Science & Technology (2004-2006), Deputy Minister for Home Affairs & Internal Security (2006-2007) and Minister of Youth Development & Sports (2007-2008) and Minister of Health between 2008 and 2009. He eventually became the Vice president of the country under Joyce Banda but was not picked as her running mate in 2004 elections. Khumbo Kachali finally formed his own political party called Freedom Party in 2017. He has recently been known to be a critic of current vice president and UTM leader Saulos Chilima often questioning why the incumbent Vice president is not resigning from his post.

Khumbo has been known to have the eagle eye of endorsing election winners. He is on record of endorsing Bakili Muluzi in 1999, Bingu Wa Mutharika in 2004 and 2009 and with only a few days to go before 2004 elections he endorsed Peter Mutharika and all his endorsements have ended up victorious. It has also been pointed out that Joyce Banda failed to accumulate a lot of votes in Mzimba after her dropping of Khumbo as a potential running mate.

Escalating political violence worrisome, we will engage international human rights bodies – MCP Diaspora Wing warns

Kalindo

The Diaspora Wing of the opposition Malawi Congress Party has condemned the escalation of political violence across the country as worrisome and something that needs to be addressed immediately. The condemnation comes amid evidence of opposition party supporters being roughed and beaten up and their vehicles being attacked.

So far, the blame has been put on the ruling DPP cadets although Police are yet to arrest anybody. “We are strongly condemning these political attacks . This is something we don’t need ahead of the general elections if we want the election to be free and fair. Malawi is a democracy and people have the right to support whichever political party they want without fear or intimidation, MCP Diaspora wing spokesman Chalo Mvula said .

There has been a recent wave of political attacks across the country. United Transformation Movement Director of Youth, Bon Kalindo was beaten up by alleged DPP Cadets, a few days later UTM supporters in Mangochi were attacked by DPP cadets as they were going to Namwera in the district to conduct a rally. In another incident In Blantyre on Sunday night, cadets severely assaulted Edward Govati for belonging to the MCP. The escalating political violence is also said to be the reason why MCP president Dr Lazarus Chakwera suspended his planned attendance of Chilembwe Day memorial in Chiradzulo. Social Media has been awash with photos and Video evidence of many of these attacks.

The Malawi Congress Party Diaspora has called on the DPP government to bring order and make sure that Malawi continues to be a peaceful nation . “ It is unfortunate that DPP leadership is not condemning the acts of its cadets, This shows that they have no respect for democracy and that these cadets are being intentionally sent in order to strike fear in Opposition members and supporters ahead of the elections” said Mvula.

The diaspora wing also had a warning for those perpetuating the violence saying they will be held accountable. “Nobody will get away with it – those who are behind these attacks will be brought before the courts , Dr Chakwera preaches about respect for the rule of law and those deliberately doing this will have to answer “ Mvula said . MCP diaspora wing has also warned that failure to act, will lead to the diaspora community engaging with the international community and human rights organisations so that the situation in Malawi can be monitored and action taken.
