DODOMA-(MaraviPost)-United republic of Tanzania’s president John Pombe Magufuli will go down in memory books and be remembered for his unique and hugely successful approach in handling the COVID-19 pandemic that has won praises all over the world
What many do not know however is the financial side of the reward that comes with his office as the president of one of the relatively successful countries in East africa
An online search on records of the monthly salaries earned by various African presidents reveals that President Magufuli earns around Tanzanian shillings 9Million as per The African Review and a previous edition of The Standard
With the current exchange rates where Ksh 1 = ~ TZS 21, this means president Magufuli earns roughly Kes 428,000 in monthly salary as reported by the aforementioned sources
The figure of Kes 428,000 is extremely low when compared to what president Uhuru earns, leave alone civil servants in Kenya where for instance, some members of parliament who hold senior positions in Parliament are earning up to upwards of Kes 1Million when basic salary, allowances and other benefits are factored in with ordinary MPs earning well above Kes 600,000 as per the Salary and renumeration commission guidelines
Few years ago, the Tanzanian president went public on national TV where he announced to the association of local authorities the above monthly pay he takes home which is reportedly very low as compared to other previous Tanzanian presidents like Jakaya Kikwete.
