Super League promoted side Surestream Academy have dared the competitive edge of Malawi’s top league by clinging on to the youthful players ahead of the season kick off on Saturday.
By the close of transfer window as teams were busy on the market Surestream, sponsored by UK petroleum firm, did not buy any player.
Surestream Academy Technical Director Peter Mponda said they would have loved to beef up the squad but claimed that they failed to get players to fit into the team’s plans.
Mponda said this would not affect the team not to survive as the team would do everything possible to motivate the players.
“We did not find the quality players we were looking for to fit into our plans. But we are not worried because the same players will do the job for us,” Mponda said.
“All we have to do is just to motivate our players.”
A month ago Surestream caused a buzz on the local football scene after the sponsor Chris Pitmman announced that it would injected US$1 million (K450 million) into the team.
The announcement was made during the ceremony to award outstanding players in the past season.
Mponda also disclosed during pre-season games that he needed two or three experienced players to galvanise the team especially in defence and striking force.
Surestream begin the season in the top league with last season’s title contenders Blue Eagles at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
