LILONGWE (Maravi Post)—Malawi Presidential Adviser on Non-Governmental Organization, Mabvuto Bamusi, called Malawi religious leaders through its hub organization, Public Affairs Committee (PAC) as liars and opposition parties’ agents.Bamusi made the remarks on Sunday night during the views triangle program on Zodiac Broadcasting Cooperation (ZBS).
According to his observation, PAC agenda is not to advise government or unite Malawians.
“As government we respect religious leaders and believe the Holy book of Bible and Quran but PAC leaders are liars,” said Bamusi.
He was referring to the PAC’s stand that it did not withdraw from discussion with government.
“PAC always wants to command the President or government and not advise as it’s mandated. They are supporting the views of a certain party, a development we cannot condone,” added Bamusi.
He however said President Peter Mutharika is ready for a dialogue if
PAC is prepared.
In his response, PAC spokesperson Father Peter Mulomole distanced themselves from the accusation.
“We did not withdraw from the dialogue; we were waiting for government to give us a day as it earlier told us. On the claim that we are trying to force the President or government to bow down to our views it’s not true,” said Mulomole.
“What I can tell Malawians is that government is denying giving us the minutes of the meeting we had in May. This is because it is unwilling to have a dialogue with us, but as PAC we carry your views and not from a certain party,” he disclosed.
The PAC spokesperson admitted that their relationship with government is not good.
Meanwhile, some political commentators have asked for tolerance between both sides in order to develop the country.
