WASHINGTON-(MaraviPost)-US President Donald Trump announced that he has postponed a planned military strike on Iran, following requests from Gulf countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Trump stated that “serious negotiations are now taking place” and suggested that a deal could be reached without further escalation.
The decision to postpone the attack comes after Iran said it had responded to a new US proposal aimed at ending the war.
Trump had given Iran a series of warnings, stating that the “clock is ticking” and threatening that “there won’t be anything left” of Iran if no peace deal is reached.
Trump claimed that he was “an hour away” from launching strikes on Iran before Gulf leaders intervened to push for more time for negotiations.
The US president added that Iranian officials were aware that Washington was close to military action and had given them “two or three days” to engage in talks.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran is fully prepared to respond to any military attack, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian defended his country’s diplomatic engagement, stating that “dialogue does not mean surrender”.
The postponement has been attributed to a combination of factors, including diplomatic pressure from Gulf states and the possibility of a breakthrough in negotiations.
However, analysts caution that the underlying issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and regional proxy conflicts, remain unresolved.
The international community is watching the developments closely, with markets reacting positively to the news and oil prices easing.
The next few days will be critical in determining whether the postponement leads to a lasting diplomatic resolution or merely a temporary reprieve.
