LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Unites States of America has expressed commitment to supporting Malawi in various challenges is grappling with, including food insecurity which has affected 23 districts in the country.
Patty Murray, a senior member of the United States Senate, gave the assurance after holding talks with President Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
Senator Murray and four other senators are in the country to appreciate investments which the United States of America is making in areas such health and education.
During the audience with President Chakwera, Senator Murray and his delegation showed concern about the country’s food insecurity, induced by dry spells and erratic rains, promising to support the people of Malawi.
She commended the Malawi Government for promoting irrigation in the wake of unreliable rains.
“We are ready to share expertise and new technologies on how ensure agriculture survives the droughts, and most importantly, let us all promote clean energy,” said Senator Murray.
Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, said President Chakwera discussed extensively with the delegation areas which his administration has earmarked to spur economic growth, including the ATM strategy.
Since 1964, USA and Malawi have enjoyed cordial relations, with Malawi benefitting through various development interventions worth billions of kwacha.
