Will controversial commentator Humphreys Mvula fit for Times TV’ Hot Current” show?

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Times Television is reportedly considering bringing back former co-host Humphreys Mvula, who previously worked on the popular show “Hot Current”.

Mvula’s potential return comes as the station looks to fill vacancies left by journalists who have joined the public service, including Brian Banda, Leah Malekano, Cathy Maulidi, and Sam Kalimira .

However, Mvula’s hiring might raise eyebrows given his contentious past at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

While at MBC, Mvula was known for heavily criticizing President Peter Mutharika, who was then in opposition, labeling him as “useless” alongside former Director General George Kasakula.

His commentary style was often described as castigative rather than objective, earning him a reputation as a biased commentator.

Critics argue that Times TV would be making a mistake by hiring someone with such a divisive track record.

“Times goofs if he brings in someone who was spending time on MBC castigating DPP leadership,” said a source familiar with the situation.

Mvula’s past comments have indeed been contentious. He previously accused Mutharika of making false statements and questioned his integrity.

He also clashed with the former president then over issues like the sale of Malawi Savings Bank and Mutharika’s Jurist Award.

Despite this, some argue that Mvula’s return could bring a fresh perspective to Times TV.

As a seasoned commentator, he has extensive experience in analyzing Malawian politics and has been vocal about governance issues
