MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-As the whole world celebrates the Youth International Day that falls on August 12 yearly, Youth Decide Campaign (YDC) says it is high time all development actors across the country took the youth as a core ingredient in all the developmental programs.
In a press statement issued by youth activist, who is also the team leader for the Campaign, Charles Kajoloweka, the movement asserts that to adequately address issues affecting the youth and other target groups, it is imperative that the youth themselves do not only actively participate in the decision-making processes, but also take decisive leadership roles.
The Campaign further puts it that having been awakened by recent events in the country, the youth have become a binding potential in the development of Malawi and remain key drivers for the country to achieve global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and so, they are now moving from the margins towards the centre of Malawian political life by playing different roles in defending good governance and democracy in the country.
The statement also appeals to the Tonse Alliance government and its partners to increase their investment in addressing pressing issues affecting the youth as majority of the them are frustrated by widespread poverty, lack of decent jobs and limited education and economic opportunities.
Again, the Campaign calls upon the government and other stakeholders to include at least 30 percent of youth representation in all decision-making bodies such district councils,
Parliament, Cabinet, parastatal boards and create decent jobs for the youth; among other things as stipulated in National Youth Policy, National Youth Manifesto, African Youth Charter and the United Nation (UN) World Programme of Action for Youth.
This year, the International Youth Day is celebrated under the theme: Youth Engagement for Global Action.
