Zimbabwe donates relief aid to Malawi in solidarity with flood survivors

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Government of Zimbabwe has handed over a donation of food and non-food relief items to Malawi, in response to the country’s State of Disaster declared due to heavy rains and natural disasters.

The handover ceremony was held at the Office of the President and Cabinet in Lilongwe, with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. George Chaponda, receiving the aid on behalf of the Malawian government.

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Malawi, Dr. Nancy Saungweme, emphasized the strong ties between the two nations, citing Pan-Africanism and regional solidarity within SADC.

The donation includes food items, cooking oil, blankets, and other essential supplies, with more consignments expected to follow.

Dr. Chaponda expressed gratitude for the timely support, highlighting the shared values and history between Malawi and Zimbabwe.

He assured that the aid would be distributed transparently and used to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The donation is a testament to the strong bilateral relations between Malawi and Zimbabwe, and demonstrates the SADC region’s commitment to supporting member states in times of need.

Malawi has been hit by devastating floods, affecting many communities and prompting the government to declare a State of Disaster.
