Zodiak journalist Menyani’s documentary Umhlangano earns top honours as CMIFF announces Jury Award winners

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Zodiak journalist Fatsani Menyani has won the Best Local Documentary award at this year’s Cape Maclear International Film Festival.

The organisers of the festival announced the results of the Jury Awards over the weekend.

Menyani’s documentary titled Umhlangano emerged as the winning production in the local documentary category.

He said he was overwhelmed with joy after learning that his work had been recognised by the festival jury.

Menyani thanked God for giving him wisdom and strength throughout the journey of creating the documentary.

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to his wife for her unwavering encouragement and support.

The journalist further extended his appreciation to Zodiak Management for providing a supportive environment for his work.

He credited the organisation for its continuous commitment to nurturing creativity and journalistic excellence.

The festival recorded a total of 26 winners across various categories.

Among the recipients, 13 were foreign filmmakers while 13 were Malawians.

The recognition of Umhlangano places Menyani among the standout talents in the country’s growing film and documentary industry.

His achievement also highlights the significant strides Malawian storytellers are making on regional and international platforms.

The Cape Maclear Film Festival continues to serve as an important stage for celebrating creativity, cultural expression, and cinematic innovation.
