LILONGWE (Maravi Post)—The Ministry of Transport and Public Works recently organized a tour to visit National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) where among others it saluted services provided to the client.Speaking during the tour, Minister of Transport and Public Works Malisoni Ndau said that NCIC, which was establishment by an Act of Parliament in 1996 as one of the best in regulating, promoting and developing the local construction industry in Malawi.

Ndau also conveyed a message from President Peter Mutharika, expressing gratitude to NCIC for displaying an impeccable and professional attitude in service delivery.

“Government has intensified cheap house campaign through Town and Country Planning ‘Guidelines and Standards’ which are aimed at improving health livelihoods for general public,” said Ndau.

Ndau commended NCIC for changing face of Malawi and putting it on the Map through its mandate of supervising roads, rail, and air transports and other related construction development.

Public Relations Officer for NCIC Lyford Gideon hailed the ministers visit as timely.

“We say bravo for the encouragement by government indeed construction industry remain a significant contributor to national economic growth, both in terms of scale and share”.

“The need, therefore, to diligently regulate, develop and promote the industry cannot be overemphasized,” said Ndau.

The population of Africa is mainly rural and in Malawi about 80% of the population lives in rural areas.

Transport is essential to enable communities to access social and economic facilities. However, limited and difficult access reduces the potential for economic growth and retards the benefits of investments in other sectors that can improve and sustain the livelihoods of poor communities hence introduction of the NCIC.
