APM promises continued working relationship with religious communities

Blantyre, June 20, 2015: President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has assured the nation that his Government will continue to work with the religious community.

He made the remarks at the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Chingadzi Parish and Ordination Ceremony of Deacon Pius Chirimba to Priesthood at Chingadzi Parish in Thyolo District.

 

The President said he was happy with the relationship between the Government and the Roman Catholic Church over the years.

“Following the cordial relationship we have shared over the years I would like to assure you that my government will continue to work positively with the religious community.” said President Mutharika.

He then advised the newly ordained priest to go out there and do the Lord`s work like others in his shoes have.

In his remarks, Bishop Thomas Luke Msusa applauded the President for making time to be at this special occasion.

‘We would like to sincerely thank you for attending this function because we know you have a busy schedule and that this means you have left out other things to be here.” said Msusa.

During the occasion, President Mutharika was awarded a ‘certificate of honour’ together with one for his late brother former President Dr Bingu wa Mutharika for making positive contributions to the church in the 50 years of its existence.

Notable figures at the function included Timothy Gerson Solomoni, Member of Parliament for Thyolo North, Charles Thombozi, District Commissioner for Thyolo and Father Steven Pahuwa, Parish Priest among many others.
