APM ‘son’ Justice Mponda congratulates Chakwera on his victory in Malawi fresh election

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—State House press officer Justice Mponda has extended his congratulatory message to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera on his victory in the much touted fresh presidential election.

Malawians went to polls on Tuesday after the court nullified the 2019 presidential election on February 3, 2020 and ordered a rerun within 150 days.

While MEC is yet to start announcing official results per district, unofficial results indicate that Chakwera has won with over 55 percent of the total votes, thereby prompting Malawians of good will from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to congratulate the man of God.

“I write to express my appreciation to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for the great opportunity to serve in his administration. I came in as a mere journalist but I have come out more of an administrator; a fully grown up man, matured and responsible.

“In President Mutharika I have learnt to appreciate the magic of working, growing and developing in silence. I will forever be grateful to APM for everything I have become today. Secondly, I also take a moment to congratulate Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, Dr. Saulos Chilima and the entire Tonse Alliance for the victory. You fought well and it has paid off,” wrote Mponda on his facebook page.

Mponda, however, encouraged DPP gurus to work on their shortfalls as they are preparing for the 2025 elections.

“It has taken an alliance of 10 political parties to defeat you and that’s evident enough that you are a very strong party. You have fallen and risen before. You can rise again from this fall,” he wrote.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika appointed Justice Mponda as one of State House press officers in 2014 just after ascending to the High Office.

Mponda was together with Gerald Viola and Tumpuza Mwasambo but the two were fired at State House for misconduct.

Since moving to the State House, Justice Mponda has been quietly discharging his duties to the delight of President Mutharika.
