Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, was shot in the leg during a confrontation with security forces.
He underwent a successful surgery to remove the bullet and is currently admitted to the hospital, where he is being guarded by heavily armed police.
According to eyewitnesses, Bobi Wine was shot during a scuffle with police officers who were trying to block him from attending a scheduled rally in Kampala.
He was rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel managed to remove the bullet from his leg after a successful operation.
The hospital is currently surrounded by heavily armed police officers, who are restricting access to the facility.
Bobi Wine’s lawyers and family members have been denied access to him, sparking concerns about his safety and well-being.
Bobi Wine’s wife, Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi, took to social media to express her concern about her husband’s condition.
“My husband has been shot and is currently in the hospital.
I am worried about his safety and well-being,” she tweeted.
The shooting of Bobi Wine has sparked widespread condemnation from human rights groups and opposition parties.
“This is a clear attempt to silence Bobi Wine and suppress opposition voices in Uganda,” said a human rights activist.
Bobi Wine’s party, NUP, has called for his immediate protection and access to medical care.
“We demand that Bobi Wine be protected and allowed to access medical care.
This is a clear violation of his human rights,” said a party spokesperson.
The Ugandan government has not commented on Bobi Wine’s shooting and hospitalization.
However, the police have stated that Bobi Wine was shot during a confrontation with security forces who were trying to maintain law and order.
As the situation continues to unfold, many Ugandans are expressing their concern about the government’s actions.
“This is a clear sign of dictatorship. We demand that our rights be respected,” said a concerned citizen.
The international community has also weighed in on the situation, with many calling for Bobi Wine’s protection and access to medical care.
“We are concerned about Bobi Wine’s safety and well-being.
We call on the Ugandan government to protect him and allow him to access medical care,” said a spokesperson for the European Union.
Bobi Wine’s shooting and hospitalization amidst a heavy police presence is a clear violation of his human rights.
