Bullets FC have are on course to qualify for the next round in the Confederation of African Football after a vital 1-0 away win against Comoros in the preliminary round.
Super League of Malawi Young Player of the Season Tizgowere Kumwenda scored the only goal of the game to give Bullets an advantage in the return leg match in two weeks time.
Bullets coach Nsanzarwimo Ramadhan said he was impressed with the performance of the players despite starting the first half on a low note.
“We started with a low pace and in the second half we saw the weaknesses of our opponent. After analysing the first half we changed the plan of the game by fielding Tizgowere Kumwenda and Jafallie Chande to start attacking and it paid dividends,” Ramadhan said.
The Burundian mentor said the travel hitches the team faced on their way to Comoros, which forced the squad to arrive barely a day before the game did not disturb the game.
“The distance we covered from Malawi to Comoros did not disturb the player because we camped in Dar-es-Salaam. The players worked very hard and whoever was at the ground saw how we played,” he said.
He said playing at home would give them an advantage with Bullets ‘Red Army expected to paint the Biafra Stands red as they will cheer the team.
“Let me say all in all the performance was very good but I don’t undermine the opponent but they were not that up to standard. Remember when we are at home I will ask out player number 12 to come in and play that game. You know who is player number 12 [is] the Palestinians supporters of Bullets,” he said.
“If they come in numbers and be behind the team I think this team will collapse as you know we played basically in empty stadium.”
Bullets made a bold decision to return to the CAF continental Championship after 10 years when they reached the last eight having beaten Zanacco and Orlando Pirates among others in the qualifying stages.
