CDH Investment Bank, LUANAR sign US$120,000 MoU for strategic development initiatives

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-CDH Investment Bank on Friday January 30,2026, signed a three-year memorandum of understanding with Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), reaffirming its commitment to investing in strategic initiatives for development.

Speaking at the event, CDH Investment Bank Chief Business Development Officer,Jamal Kamoto, said the activity provides the partners an opportunity to invest in three strategic pillars at LUANAR followingthe successful execution of the previous MoU which ran from 2023-2025.

The MoU funding will support eco-forestry and tourism development at Bunda and NRC campuses, solar energy infrastructure project for the installation and management of solar energy generation systems at LUANAR campuses, and support LUANAR’s innovation challenge through the provision of scholarships to talented students, intellectual property filing awards for innovative LUANAR researchers to refine products and enter the market, and fund innovation endowment fund: Contribution of USD30,000 to an endowment fund.

The bank disbursed K15.759 million towards eco-forestry and tourism development initiatives through LUANAR’s Forestry Department.

The tree-planting exercise is the first initiative which the bank will support under the new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the bank and the university and took place on the same day at Mlewa Primary School where the partners, the community, students and volunteers planted 2,500 trees and committed to manage the exercise to ensure growth of the trees.

The bank expressed gratitude to LUANAR for the initiative and thanked the volunteers participating in the initiative, noting that their dedication helps ensure productive ecosystems that benefit both people and nature.

“Our partnership with LUANAR creates awareness about environmental protection and instills a passion for sustainability within the community and the university.

“This will help Malawi build resilience to climate change and contribute to a thriving green economy,” said Kamoto .

LUANAR Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Kaunda, described CDH Investment Bank as a true partner, saying the support to be provided through the new MoU will help transform university forests into tourism facilities, address electricity challenges at campuses and spur innovations at LUANAR.
