Chakwera graces John Chilembwe Day Commemoration at PIM

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera and the First Lady, Madame Monica Chakwera on Wednesday, graced the Chilembwe Day at Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) in Chiradzulu district.

The President ead the commemoration of John Chilembwe, who led the uprising against colonial rule in 1915.

Firstly, Chakwera Firstly paid his respect to the fallen hero and the people who died during the uprising by laying wreaths and proceeded to prayers services in the assembly hall.

This year’s event is being held under the theme: “Come to me and I will give you rest _ Matthew 11 verses 28-30” and the event is being patronised by people from all walks of life, including politicians, religious groups and international delegates.

Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, Joseph Mwanamveka, representing Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Inkosi Yamakosi Mmbelwa are among those attending the event.
