BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Second Vice President Enock Kanzingeni Chihana on Thursday evening honoured legendary musician Giddes Chalamanda by hosting him at his official residence in Blantyre as he celebrated his 95th birthday.
The Vice President extended the invitation as a way of recognising Chalamanda’s immense contribution to Malawi’s music industry and his role in preserving the country’s cultural heritage.
Speaking during the event, Chihana described Chalamanda as a blessing to the nation, saying his music has inspired generations and continues to unite Malawians across age groups.
He further wished the veteran artist a long life and good health, expressing hope that Chalamanda’s wisdom and artistry would continue to enrich the country.
As part of the celebration, the Second Vice President presented Chalamanda with a birthday gift of K1 million as a sign of appreciation for his lifelong service through music.
The event was characterised by joy and music, reflecting the spirit that has defined Chalamanda’s long and successful career.
In a symbolic gesture of respect, Chihana picked up a guitar and led those present in singing “Happy Birthday” to the music legend.
The moment highlighted the strong bond between leadership and the arts, showing recognition of culture at the highest level of government.
