China offers US$1.4m for Malawi Parliament rehab

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Chinese government on Wednesday, March 8, 2022 donated US$ 1.4 million towards rehabilitation of Malawi Parliament building.

Making the donation at parliament building in the capital Lilongwe, Chinese Ambassador ,Long Zhou said the donation came after receiving a complaints from the Speaker office that the building is having leakages.

Zhou said the maintenance is expected to be done in four phases.

He observes that regularly maintenance is needed for every building.

Receiving the donation, Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotan Hara said the support is timely considering serious leakages the building pose threat to lawmakers during rain season.

Hara therefore lauded Chinese government for adhering to the call in time.

Parliament building was built in 2010 as a grant from the Chinese government in Bingu wa Muntharikas regime.
