CHITIPA-(MANA)-The Malawi Police Service in Chitipa District have arrested an 18-year-old girl, Eunice Phiri, for allegedly stabbing to death her boyfriend, France Mwalwanda, aged 21.
Both Phiri and Mwalwanda were form one learners at Natu Private Secondary School in the district.
Assistant Public Relations Officer for Chitipa Police, Mathews Bright Mfune said the incident occurred on Sunday at Illema Trading Centre in the district.
He said the two had left their school for the said place to drink beer.
“Disagreements erupted later between the two when the girl was refusing to listen to advice from her boyfriend about going back to the school campus,” explains Mfune.
He further said that Mwalwanda was the first to take a knife from the near-by meat roasting bench to scare his girlfriend so that she should accept the advice to return to the school campus.
“The two started tussling for the knife, ending up with the girl snatching a knife from his boyfriend and stabbing the deceased in the back,” he said.
Mfune said that Mwalwanda was rushed to Chitipa District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
He said that postmortem results showed that death was due to severe bleeding.
