BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s electoral governance think-tank under the banner Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum (CSEIF) has warned political parties against deliberately giving distorted information to the general public on the implemention of processes in preparation for the 16th September general elections.
CSEIF chairperson Benedicto Kondowe observes that some mistrust people have on Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on the management of the elections are as a result of misinformation from political parties.
The forum says this is despite MEC clarifying on the same.
Kondowe added, “It is strange that some parties are only highligting the negative side of the election management technology without mentioning that the same technology worked perfectly somewhere”.
He therefore urged stakeholders to encourage MEC to be transparent.
Kondowe was speaking on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the ongoing all inclusive stakeholders conference by the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) being held in Blantyre.
The event is part of PAC’s ongoing efforts to create a platform for inclusive dialogue and consensus-building ahead of the country’s general elections.
Stakeholders present include political parties, civil society, faith-based organizations, and members of the academic community.
