Having played a critical role in the run to May 20, 2014 tripartite elections bid. The Democratic Progressive Party youths from the two colleges have reunited to find better means on how they can contribute towards improving the lives of Malawians and take part in social economic development through initiation of projects and activities that are in line with their field of study and aimed at developing the country.
At an event which took place at Bunda Campus in the twilight hours of June 8, 2015. The Executive Committees from Bunda and Natural Resources Colleges converged where they reminded each other that the journey which they took some years back had finally reached its destination.
The two groups hinted that time for politicking and misusing the youths of this nation politically is over and as the future leaders; they want to aim at practising result oriented politics in a smart way of managing state of affairs.
“We are geared to contribute positively to the development of this nation; LUANAR is the backbone of this country’s economy since Malawi is an agro based nation. For this reason, we want to continue helping the government just as we did in the run to the election through these same wings by applying the academic skills which we acquire from these institutions to improve the livelihood of Malawians through food security, the greenbelt initiative, and conservation agriculture and irrigation projects among other things”. Said Redson Gwiriza, the Chair person for Bunda DPP wing.
On the other hand, the Chairman of NRC –DPP wing and President of the Students Union at the college, Mr. Jimmy Chisenga explained that, “as agriculturalists and future leaders, I want to urge the government to make sure that the welfare of the students are looked into to provide a conducive learning environment, it is a known fact that the youths of this nation dominate our population and are a group of people which influences a lot of things in our societies. For this reason, the youths in Malawi deserve the best and it is from this DPP wing that we want to see future parliamentarians, ministers and influential people in our society”.
The two groups raised concerns that lack of party materials and other resources are the major challenges which gives them limitations for their planned activities but they thanked those in authority for the support which they accord them when need arises since their wings were formed.
The event was graced by the Central Region Democratic Progressive Party Youth Organizing Secretary, Mr. Malimba who is fondly knows as “Aishoshe Aione” amongst the party followers and other three members from their committee which included Ms. Pinto, Mr. Richard Chikapa and Mr. Stevin Pogo.
In his remarks, “Aishoshe Aione” thanked the youths for their support they have always given the DPP ever since it was formed.
“As DPP, we are very thankful for you the students from both Bunda and NRC. You have stood for the party in the darkest days and stuck to it. We have been together in many events such as the Masintha rally, the manifesto launch, in the whistle stop tours, at the tally center and in the most difficult times, you took the risk to protect our President, His Excellency Arthur Peter Mutharika. On behalf of the entire party, I want to extent my sincere gratitude”. Said Malimba.
Malimba pleaded with the wing executive members to be exemplary and model to their fellow students , entire wing members and contribute positively to the development of this country.
