LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)—Centre Chipiku Stores Premier Division League leaders Blue Eagles Reserve say they will fight tooth and nail to win the 2025 championship despite the league intensifying in the final games.

The team’s assistant coach, Alupheus Nyoni, said ahead of Sunday’s Capital City derby against Silver Strikers Reserve at Nankhaka Stadium on January 4, 2026.

“The league is getting tougher now. Against Silver Strikers on Sunday, it’s a crucial game—you can’t underestimate a derby, it has its own vibe and rhythm. Silver is a good side,” he said.

“We have been at the summit for a long time now, and we can’t afford to let the championship slip through our hands. We have to fight tooth and nail, and our boys are eager to play every game that comes our way. The team is developing well, and I believe we produce the best players for our senior team,” Nyoni added.

In an interview, Silver Strikers Reserve head coach McDonald Yobe concurred with Nyoni that the match will be tough.

Eagles are closely pursued by Extreme FC from Mchinji in the championship race.

However, the young team from Area 30 strengthened their position after defeating second-placed Extreme 3-1 at home last week, opening a five-point gap with a game in hand.

Eagles have accumulated 57 points from 25 games, winning 17, drawing 6, and losing 2.

The team has scored 50 goals and conceded 18, with a goal difference of 32—the best defensive record in the league.

Extreme FC sit in second place with 52 points from 26 games, having won 15, drawn 7, and lost 4.

If the table remains as it is until the end of the season, the Mchinji-based outfit, who were relegated from Malawi’s elite league, will be promoted to play in the NBS Bank National Division League.

Eagles are not eligible for promotion because their senior team, Blue Eagles FC, already compete in the elite league.
