BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-In a bid to empower vulnerable communities, the Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) on Thursday donated two sewing machines and start-up tools valued at K4.8 million to learners at Nkhwazi Community Skills Centre in Mchinji.
The donation is part of the SRHR-HIV Knows No Borders Project, which aims to improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes among youth.
Speaking to journalists,ELDS Health Programmes,Nkosi Khomeliwa said the donation will provide graduates with a solid foundation to launch their income-generating activities.
“We recognized the need for support and decided to step in,” said Khomeliwa.
Principal for the institution Geoffrey Kachila welcomed the donation, highlighting the centre’s pressing needs, including inadequate teaching materials and a shortage of instructors.
ELDS with funding from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has also been paying tuition fees for underprivileged students at the institution, resulting in over 40 graduates last year and over 90 since 2023.
