BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Just four months after failing elections opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has started losing its gurus latest being second deputy director of public relations Isaac Mwepa resigns from party.
In his resignation letter dated January 27, 2026 addressed to the party secretary general, Mwepa, has cited personal reasons.
“I, Isaac Mwepa, hereby submit my immediate resignation as Second Deputy Director of Public Relations and as a member of MCP, effective immediately.
“This decision is personal, allowing me to focus on my business and other priorities. I appreciate the support I have received during my tenure and wish the party continued success”, reads the letter in part.
Mwepa, who contested for the Chitipa North Constituency seat in the September 16, 2025 General Election on an MCP ticket, said the resignation has nothig to do with his loss in the Parliamentary race.
MCP deputy Secretary General Gerald Kazembe however described Mwepa as a great man and a politician of impeccable character.
“Honourable Mwepa is a great man, a politician of impeccable character. I will personally miss him. However, we regret that he has made the decision to quit,” he said.
MCP lost elections to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
