Balaka district hospital on fire

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)–Fire has destroyed part of Balaka district hospital in the early hours of today Friday.

Director of health services for the hospital, Dr. Eugine Katenga Kaunda, says the fire started from the kitchen and has affected the laundry, data office and store room, but there have been no casualties.

All patients have been evacuated and there are plans to transfer them to Machinga or Ntcheu district hospitals.

Balaka and surrounding districts have no fire engines such that in situations like this, they await for help from Zomba City Council, close to two-hour’s drive.
