LILONGWE–(MaraviPost)-The Football Legends Association (FLA) in partnership with Ebenezer Investment has launched the first phase of a skills development training program aimed at improving the welfare of football legends and former players in Malawi.

The initiative stems from a partnership agreement signed between FLA and Ebenezer Investment last year, facilitated by grassroots football organization Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu.

The first cohort of former players began their training at Ebenezer Investment’s offices in Lilongwe on Monday, January 13, 2026.

Participants including former footballers Itai Nundwe, Leo Mpulula, Allan Kamanga, and Lehman Nthala.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, FLA General Secretary Gomezgani Solomon Mchawi said the initiative aligns with the association’s mission to empower retired footballers.

“This is just the beginning of more initiatives we have lined up for our members this year,” Mchawi said.

Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu founding director Chimango Munthali encouraged the former players to maximize the opportunity.

“Not all former players can take up coaching or administrative roles. Some of you have entrepreneurship skills, so this is your chance,” Munthali said, adding that the training serves as a stepping stone to greater business opportunities.

Ebenezer Investment Board Chairperson James Nyirongo described the initiative as a pilot program that could lead to expanded collaboration between the two organizations.

“We are commencing a journey that promises more opportunities in the future. I urge all participants to take this training seriously. This is not about Ebenezer or FLA—this is about you growing your skills,” he said.

Nyirongo revealed that Ebenezer has invested K8 million in training the first cohort.

The program is expected to run for one month.
