LILONGWE Maravipost: The government has abandoned three Agricultural Development Marketing Corporations (ADMARCs) which were built using the Community Development Fund (CDF) amidst hunger crisis

In an interview with Maravipost on Thursday, February 27, Mzimba North lawmaker Billy Kaunda said that the closure of the 3 depots is a bad timing amidst the hunger crisis.

Kaunda said people are supposed to travel 15 kilometers to the old ADMARC depots, which is costly in light of economic challenges.

“The manager for Mzimba reported to me that Kafukule ADMARC, Luvwele ADMARC, and Elangeni market will not be utilized during this hunger market as they have been instructed not to use them any more, which will cause community members to walk long distances,”said Kaunda.

He asked government if they are punishing the people so that they should be walking long distances to get maize.

In his response, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Benedikto Chambo asked the member to put the question in writing so that he can come up with the answer.
