MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Mzuzu chapter has threatened to deal with Members of Parliament (MPs) who plan to reject bills which benefit Malawians.
The chair person for HRDC northern region chapter Happy Mhango sent the warning after delivering a petition to the acting CEO for Mzuzu city council Yotam Mtafya following a peaceful demostrations on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
Mhango warned that they will react to all MPs who refuses to pass usefull bills by holding demostration in their costituencies.
“We demand the council to the deliver the petition to the rightfull authority because we need quick response to our demands.”said Mhango.
Some of the demands asking the government including to give Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) adequate resources for the country to hold credible elections, the immediate removal of the chief elections officer Sam Alfandika and two commissioners who have been reinstated and asked the parliament to speed up their deliberations on 50+1 that it comes to its conclusion fast,now that the day for elections is known.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Mzuzu city council Yotam Mtafya, the acting chief executive officer promised to deliver the petition to the responsible authorities.
The demonstrations were slated to take place in all the cities in the country
However according to chairperson for HRDC in the southern region Masauko Thawe Blantyre only had vigils which were cancelled to give room legislators conduct deliberations,in Parliament.
