BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-As opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) elective convention is closer, senior member Dr. Paul Gadama, who is aspiring for Central Region Vice president position has disputed social media claims of being used to disrupt the party once elected into the post.
Dr. Gadama response is reacting to the recent social media’s audio circulation which is purportedly claims that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) gave him millions of Kwacha to buy delegates for Central Region DPP Vice President position.
The audio alleges that MCP has signed a contract with Dr. Gadama to disrupt DPP once elected as Central Region Vice president.
But Gadama described the allegation as childish propaganda from his competitors.
“I have listened to the audio recording and found its content to be laughable. As the son of the late Rt. Hon. Aaron Gadama, who served as minister responsible for the central region during the Kamuzu era, I have a personal history that contradicts the narrative being peddled. My father was murdered by the Kamuzu and MCP regime when I was just 8 years old.
“The audio recording suggests that because I hail from Kasungu, have family members in the MCP, and my father was an MCP member who was murdered by the regime, I must also be an MCP member. This is a flawed assumption and a desperate attempt to discredit me. It is clear that this narrative is being sponsored by a sect within the DPP, comprising direct competitors and those who fear my candidacy,” rebukes Gadama.
He added, “I describe this narrative as empty and bankrupt, with no substance to the claims being made. It is intended to deceive both APM and the delegates to the convention, suggesting that APM can be swayed by naive arguments and that delegates are unaware of my true character. However, I am confident that most delegates know who is behind this smear campaign, and I have chosen to take the high road and remain civil.
“For your information, I have been a loyal member of the DPP since its inception. I was there when the party was registered, and I worked closely with Bingu. I have made significant sacrifices for the party, and APM is well aware of my contributions. I am contesting for the Vice President position for the Central Region and am confident of winning at the Convention. I urge you to ignore the noise and misinformation being spread by political novice”.
The opposition DPP is expected to hold elective convention on August 18, 2024 in Blantyre.
