Indian national Anand-Mandivar fined K700, 000 for calling Malawian “a dog”

Mzuzu Senior Resident Magistrate Court has ordered an Indian national Anand-Mandivar to compensate Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Northern region chairperson Happy Mhango with K700, 000.00 for calling him “a dog.”

Giving his ruling earlier today, Chief Resident Magistrate Godfrey Nyirenda gave a three months suspended sentence to Mandivar, but opted for fine as Mandivar is a first offender.

Mandivar was arrested on Tuesday by Mzuzu Police.

The incident happened at Kentam Mall in Mzuzu where the two were seeking services from a mobile phone operator.

According to Mzuzu Police, Mandivar did not want to join the queue but to bypass everyone who was there, a behaviour that prompted the rights activist to intervene by asking the Indian national to respect others.

In retaliation, Mandivar hulled insults at the innocent Malawian.
