NAKURU-(MaraviPost)-Kenyan Police in Nakuru county have arrested Benson Thuranira, a Narc-Kenya MCA aspirant for Muthara Ward (Meru county), for allegedly robbing a mobile money shop to fund his election Campaign.
The Rift Valley DCI boss Mwenda Meme confirmed the arrest adding that the suspect was arrested after the M-Pesa operator raised an alarm.
Meme was quoted by Star saying: “Thuranira entered a M-Pesa shop and asked the owner to deposit Sh64,000 in his mobile number. When the M-Pesa lady deposited, he manipulated his mobile phone and it could not reflect the deposit message.
“He, therefore, told the lady to return his cash which she did but upon checking her message, she found out the money had already been deposited to Thuranira’s account”.
Police disclosed that the suspect also has other similar cases in Shauri Moyo, Mwea and Mombasa.
DCI added that Thuranira was previously accused of conning a woman in Busia of 60 bags of groundnuts and 60,000 shillings and defrauding a Meru lady of Sh100,000.
During interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he was looking for money to do his campaigns hence the cases against him. The Narc Kenya party member will be in police custody until Monday, May 30, when he will be arraigned.
The DCI detectives have therefore urged other M-Pesa agents whom Thuranira may have defrauded to come forward and file their reports.
