Malawi Court slaps Chinese nationals with 11 years jail term, deportation for wildlife crimes

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Lilongwe Magistrate court on Monday, July 2020 slapped seven Chinese nationals with custodial sentences for being found guilty of killing Pangolin (Ngaka) for food and possession of wildlife animals illegally

Magistrate Sekandiwana has however recommended that the convict be deported to their country after serving sentences.

The offences are for possession that wildlife products and firearms forfeited to Malawi government.

The same court also sentenced two Malawians to 18 months for illegal possession of wildlife products.

Below are details of the convicts with their sentences;

Quin Hua Zhang –11 years (7 yrs rhino horn, 4 yrs illegal firearm ) Li Hao Yuan – 11 years (7 yrs rhino horn, 4 yrs illegal firearm)
Yanwu Zhuo – 7 years (rhino horn)
Ya Shen Zhuo – 7 years (rhino horn)
Jinfu Zeng – 5 years (5 yrs pangolin scales, 3 yrs worked ivory)
Guozhong Zhang – 3 years (2 yrs pangolin scales, 3 yrs worked ivory)
Guohua Zhang – 3 years (worked ivory)
Cosmas Sakugwa – 1.5 years (worked ivory)
Steven Daza – 1.5 years (hippo teeth)
