NKHOTAKOTA-(MaraviPost)-The cash-strapped Dwangwa United Football Club (FC)’s face was on Sunday smiling following the Former Speaker of Parliament Henry Chimunthu Banda donation of MK500,000
The donation which Chimunthu Banda who is Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Parliamentary candidate for Nkhotakota North Constituency will ease the financial pressures the club is facing currently.
Speaking at Chitowe stadium where he was launching his Chimunthu Banda Cup, the former Speaker said it is his wish to ensure Dwangwa United does not disband since it’s the only team that attracts Super League teams to Nkhotakota North and offers entertainment to his constituents.
He further alluded to the fact that though Dwangwa United, the constituency has exposed talents for several names associated with football at national level such as Esau Kanyenda, Washington Malata, Trust Lunda, Jack Chiwona, George Nyirenda, Sankhani Mkandawire, Lyton Mangani just to mention a few.

Initially the Chimunthu Cup was pegged at MK3 million but has now been increased to MK5 Million and is competed for by football and netball clubs and schools in Nkhotakota North constituency.
Today’s launch was for clubs in Illovo’s Dwangwa Sugar Corporation. In football, Garage United beat Nyamvuu FC by 5 goals to 3 on post match penalties. The two teams had a goaless draw at full time of play. In netball, Bana Sisters beat FIGO Sisters by 8 to 6.
