KARONGA: Government through the ministry of finance has deployed financial auditors to Karonga district council to audit the allegations that officers have plundered public resources.
Confirming the development, spokesperson for the ministry of finance Nations Msowoya said the exercise follows report of cash gate.
He however failed to give a period of finalizing the exercise saying it will depend on the work on the ground.
“This exercise is to find out if the council misappropriated government resources as reported by councilors,” said Msowoya.
“We shall let the public know the outcome of the exercise and we therefore need calm from the community,” he added.
Karonga district officers are accused of plundering millions of kwacha and resources of the council.
Among the abused projects include the MASAF 4 and Malata and Cement subsidy projects.
One of the prime suspects is Philemon Maseko who was recently fire by Karonga district council on his position as acting Director of Public Works.
