Chitipa’s ST/A Nthalire to senior chief

CHITIPA-(MaraviPost)-The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development,GrezeldarJeffrey on Tuesday presided over a ceremony to elevate Traditional Authority (T/A) Nthalire to senior chief at Chitipa secondary school hall in the district.

In her speech at the function, she advised the newly elevated senior chief to love his people so that when government gives himcoupons and something like maize he should be sharing equally to his people.

“The senior chief should be doing good worksin his area,and  he should concentrate on development and avoid corruption at all cost,” said Jeffrey.

She further explained that government will make sure that all chiefs are getting their honoraria timely.

“I do not want chiefs to be worrying about their welfare so I will liaise with the ministry for the chiefs to be receiving their monthly honoraria,” she said.

Speaking at the event, Paramount Chief Kyungu of karongaand Chitipasaid the newly elevated chiefshould be tolerant, humble, and respecthis people.

“A good  leader must beprayerful, courageous and heshould be loving his peopleand in short togetherness is needed  in his area ” said Kyungu.

“I also have to take advantage to call the president Peter Mutharikato visit the chiefs in the north as we need him because he is the state president of Malawi,”saidKyungu

Atthe event, sub T/A Navikaza and sub T/A Nthengatengawere also elevated to Traditional Authority and Chitipa now has two Senior chiefs, Kameme and Nthalire and four T/AsMwenemisuku, Mwenewenya, Navikazaand Nthengatenga.
